Huh?

At 5:00 a.m. my alarm clock went off and I reached over to hit the ‘snooze’. I then found the remote halfway under my pillow and switched on the TV. As I lay there, I contemplated getting up or dozing for the nine minutes until the alarm would sound again. My mind was made up for me when I heard the following being reported on the news: “12 Year Old Wins Car for Perfect Attendance”. A 12 year old girl’s name was randomly chosen out of almost 190,000 children who had perfect attendance. This prize was given for perfect attendance for a three month period. Huh? Not even the whole school year.

Apparently the Chicago Public School system is giving out prizes as incentives for kids to show up to class. I can say I get that. But a car? And to a 12 year old? Don’t you think free passes to Great America or the museum would be more appropriate?

What do you think?

Truth is stranger than fiction. The truth also makes the best jokes. You know that a lot of the stuff I've written about is true because no one could have possibly made it up.

I saw this in the newspaper this morning, and thought "huh?" too. I don't get it either. I guess the Chicago public schools are just that happy when the kids show up - LOL!

Now if only the Chicago Schools could afford metal detectors, updated books and computers.

Seriously?! I'm right on track with you...their budget is so skewed. WTF?!

I got Dodger tickets in my senior year of high school for my perfect attendance. And they were the crappy seats.

A car is probably a little inappropriate for a 12 year old. I'm sure 12 year olds these days would rather have the cash.

Oh, wow. A car. For three months' attendance. I had ten years of perfect attendance and got... squat.

What a rip.
