Hot and Cold...

Today I am looking forward to a much more comfortable day at work. You see, I switched desks with my co-worker on Friday. Before then I had the only heat/AC vent in our office area located directly above me. A constant stream of cold air blowing on me the majority of the day made for much discomfort; and goose bumps. I could wear a sweater, but I am of the sort who does not like confining or tight clothes. I prefer short sleeves even in winter and you will never find me in a turtle neck.

Now one could assume that I would welcome said blast of artic breeze, since I am at the age (Note: Male readers, please put your hands over your ears and repeat, “La, la, la, la. I can’t hear you! La, la la.”), where the hot flashes and night sweats are occurring with more frequency. But I don’t, because the amount of frigid air cascading from above far outweighs the amount of times my internal temperature is reset to broil.

On the other hand, or other side of the office if you will, my co-worker was always hot. She had a small fan which she strategically aimed toward her upper body, thus feeling it’s effect without disrupting the papers on her desk. Unfortunately it was loud and had to be turned off whenever she was on the phone.

Anyhoo, we must now get used to working with the mirror image of what we’re used to. My file drawer is now to my left as opposed to my right. When the phone rings I need to swing my chair right and not left. I’ll have to remember the new location of my garbage can so the trash lands in it and not on the floor two feet away.

It will surely take some getting used to, but in the mean time I will enjoy my new surroundings. And when Mr. Fahrenheit decides to make a call I’ll just have to visit my co-workers side.

I would love an AC vent above my desk. My body temperature borders on feverish 85% of the time anyways. I'm a shorts and t-shirt wearer year round.

I wouldn't be able to even get up to go to the bathroom if my desk was right under the AC! ;) My office is pretty chilly though, and I LIKE it :)

That's life! Full of little 'adjustments'. It's like a bad bra. If you don't keep adjusting things, well, they just get out of control.

You are so funny! I agree, an undesirable temperature can ruin your entire day. I hate being cold!

i have an ac vent above my desk, and it is always FREEZING in my office. i have pulled out my desk heater many a times this summer. i always eat lunch outside in the sun so that i can thaw out for the afternoon :(

Whoa do I know what you are saying. ABout the vent, not the hot flashes and 'la, la la, I can't here you...' part.

I have a vent directly over me and I'm pretty sure it was mistakenly seat at the temperature used to preserve frozen meat and corpses.

I may very well be the only person in our entire office that is found drinking fresh coffee and hot tea at 2pm every day...

Hope you can get used to the change!

haha I loved your comment! We have an apartment, The picture of the apartment complex is on my blog, a few entries back--it's beautiful. And, for what i'm paying for one teeny tiny room here in DC we get a big 1BR apartment. I'm excited to be able to save the extra money! Move-In date is August 15. As far as the job, my boss offered for me to work from home, how exciting! So, I get to keep my business cards & they're buying me a new laptop. I believe in signs, and this seems like it was the right decision since everything is falling into place so nicely! Thanks for asking :)

Love your blog already!! Glad you stopped by mine. And yes, you SHOULD look at past posts for MORBID MONDAY entries. But keep in mind,MORBID MONDAY is a new thing. Several of my readers recently pointed out that although I OFTEN talk about gross things, I TEND do so on Mondays.

So as not to disappoint my fans, I decided to make a weekly thing!

Hallie :)

I'm with you on not liking tight clothes. And I'm one of the few people that still wears ties to work every day! But sitting by the a/c vent must be the worst.

Wow. I would like to sit under the a/c in the summer and switch away from it in the winter. I guess I'm a temperature Diva. *sigh.

I'll trade ya! My office is always hot! Some Einstein put the a/c vent BEHIND the door. So I have to close the door to cool off.

Oh, go visit www.countrydoctorswife.com. HILARIOUS! Need to add her to your faves!

The air conditioning unit at my work is to small for the size of the office. So on really hot days (like today) Its the worst!!! As I was wiping the beads of sweat off my forehead I glanced at the thermostat and it read 82!! and felt like 90!!
I'll trade ya!

Oh, I lurv me some dead-on air conditioning blastage! I'm actually sorry that you moved desks. But, you'll be happier. :)

I hate moving desks. It's so hard to readjust. I'm sitting by the heater at the moment at work (we are having a cold snap in Sydney) so I won't be swapping desks with anyone. Nuh-uh!

I know the freezing office conditions all too well. I have to wear a sweatshirt every day and I still feel like I am suffering from hypothermia.

You are lucky to have moved into a more comfortable climate zone.
