I wanted to be...

I wanted to be an interior designer. I think it stemmed from the endless hours I spent as a child playing with my dollhouse and redecorating the rooms. I would paint the walls, glue on miniature wallpaper and make little decorations. I loved that dollhouse.

Years later when my youngest started first grade I enrolled as a full time student at Ray College of Design. It wasn’t easy to say the least. I would be in class all day and when I got home I had two children to take care of, house cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, cooking and let’s not forget about the homework. My days started early and ended quite late. Although it was hectic I loved every minute of it. I got straight A’s and made the dean’s list that first semester…then it ended.

I decided to leave my husband and file for divorce. I took the kids and moved back with my parents. I had no money, no car, and very little work experience. I needed to find a job, so returning to school was not an option.

Now I work as an office manager for an electrical contracting firm. I have been doing this almost fourteen years and enjoy it. Sometimes, though, I wonder how my days would be different if I had been able to fulfill that dream...

I 'wanted' to be an interior designer...past tense.

I sometimes wonder how things would be different, but that doesn't mean I want to change them. I like what I do now.

Toodles~

My dream was always to be a baseball announcer. Now, I sit in my cube all day.

It is nice to think about different paths we might have taken. I wonder though, if we had followed those paths would we still say - 'What if?' So glad you like what you do now. I do too, even though my boss is incredibly self-obsessed. But that's a story for another day. XX
