Apple Pie Shots

Okay, the last two Fridays have featured some yummy, but non-alcoholic recipes. It’s time to jump off the wagon and give you folks another delicious alcoholic beverage. And this one includes grain alcohol. Now don’t be frightened…it’s diluted, well sort of.

With the Olympics going on and all, what’s more American than apple pie? Well, how about Apple Pie Shots? This is a recipe you make ahead of time and will last for several months in your refrigerator.

Let’s take a look at the culprits:

We have one gallon of apple cider, one half gallon of apple juice, ten cinnamon sticks, 2 ¾ cups of sugar and 3 ½ cups of Everclear (grain alcohol).

First pour one gallon of apple cider into a large pot.

Next add one half gallon of apple juice.

Put ten sticks of cinnamon in pot.

Place on stovetop and bring to a boil. Boil for 15 minutes.

After fifteen minutes, turn off heat and add 2 ¾ cups of sugar and stir.

Let cool completely, remove cinnamon sticks and add 3 ½ cups of Everclear (grain alcohol).

Have ready enough glass bottles for approximately one and a half gallons.

Distribute amongst several bottles.

Keep chilled in refrigerator. Shake before serving and enjoy.

Apple Pie Shots
1 Gallon Apple Cider
½ Gallon Apple Juice
10 Cinnamon Sticks
2 ¾ Cups Sugar
3 ½ Cups Everclear (Grain Alcohol)

Combine first three ingredients in large pot and boil for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in 2 ¾ cups of sugar.
Let cool completely. Remove cinnamon sticks and add 3 ½ cups of Everclear.
Pour into glass bottles and store in refrigerator.
Shake before serving.

So now that you have some apple pie, you just need Baseball, hot dogs, and Chevrolet. Okay, if you got that, you’re old like me!

Note: Because this drink does contain grain alcohol, it is meant to be sipped and not chugged, slammed, gulped...you get my drift.

You bring your apple pie stuff. I'll bring my 23 year old Guatemalan Rum, and we'll trade shots. Sipping, of course.

This is a great basic recipe. However, it only comes out to about 40 proof, or 20% alcohol. I wanted to crank up the ABV and lower the sugar, and instead used this:

32 oz apple juice
32 oz apple cider
8 cinnamon sticks
2 cups brown sugar
2 bottles (est 50 oz./ 1500ml) 190 proof grain alcohol

Result: Est 45% ABV/ 90 Proof Alcohol

Boil juice, cider, cinnamon sticks for about 20 mins, stire in sugar. Let cool completely (first on counter, then covered in fridge), then add everclear.

Made three (3) 32oz bottles- two to friends, one to age in cupboard.
We used Ikea "EZ-Cap" 32oz bottles (4$/ea), and for decoration, we added wire ribbon "lipstick" - the pattern of classic picnic red/white cloth, and a product description tag attached with thin twine. They came out VERY nice.

Due to the bottles being so large, I might put them in 1/2 pint (8oz) mason jars instead next time, and have many smaller gifts instead of a few large ones. We'll cover the tops (before putting on the ring) with the same picnic-color fabric.

Can't you buy everclear everywhere? I'm in central WI.
