Fifty Percent…

Apparently the company my husband works for didn’t think traveling 50% of the time and covering half of the contiguous United States was enough….

11/04/09
Paul is traveling for work in Houston and gets a call offering him an assignment to India; he responds that he needs to consult me first. We talk later that day and agree he should take it.

11/13/09
Paul has a meeting in Rhode Island with the owner of the company to go over the details.

11/14/09 - 11/27/09
Work visa obtained
Flight reservation made
Hotel reservation made
Immunizations (five shots, ouch!) and a prescription for anti-diarrhea medication
Travel Insurance obtained
International driving permit obtained
GPS purchased
New laptop purchased (with Webcam for Skype)
Skype set up
Sony eReader Touch purchased and some books downloaded, namely “Culture Shock! India (A Survival Guide to Customs & Etiquette)
Credit card company contacted (yeah, not only did he find out there is an additional 3% charge to use it internationally...but his info was passed on after booking his hotel in India! New card stat!...obtained.)
Notify customer base that he’ll be out of the country
Travelers checks obtained
Replace all leather items (Read: leather = cow = big no-no)
Pack bottled water and edible snacks
Voltage adapter purchased
Blow up doll packed. Just kidding; packed hand job lotion.

11/28/09
We went to Texas Road House for Paul’s last taste of beef he’ll have in awhile.

11/29/09
Paul left to travel 50% across the globe for up to half of the next year.

This is a great opportunity and I’m excited for him, but there is a part of me that just wants to throw up when I think of how far away he’ll be and how long he’ll be gone. I know he’ll be home for Christmas and New Years…but that’s a whole month away!

One last thing I want to share; and the reason I asked him not to use the international driving permit…

My husband very nearly got to go to India for work as well. It was supposed to only be for 60 days, but we were in the middle of closing on our condo, moving etc, and he declined to go. They sent someone else and that guy ended up having to stay for 6 months. I suppose we could have gone out there with him, but it was very bad timing. I hope the time passes for you very quickly!

That's a big chance for him! I am glad that he gets to come home for Christmas. Will you get to go visit him across the world?

OK, those drivers are completely nuts! Apparently there are no lanes or stoplights? CRAZY! Was thinking of you guys yesterday, and wondering if he got off okay. Call me!

Call me ANYTIME! Seriously.

And we'll get our girls night set up very very soon!!

PS Dear Paul : Please don't walk in India either! And I thought Chicago drivers were crazy! Geesh!

Holy cow! (Sorry, pun totally intended. Couldn't help myself. Will submit to a whipping whenever you wish.)

Dude, all I have to say is I hope he's careful, hope he takes great pictures, and hope you survive. And come to Georgia if you need company. :)

Wow. That will be an incredible experience for sure. I hope the time goes by quickly, for the both of you.

That's a big deal! A blogger friend of mine has been living there a while now, and I honestly don't think I could do it. Indian food is one of my favorites, but I prefer to eat it in the good old USA ;)
