I Think Not...

After all the staring yesterday, when Paul and I went to the hotel restaurant for dinner the staff barely paid any attention to me.  They asked him how he was and gave only him a menu…like he was going to choose what I was eating.  Seriously?  I think not.  When we did order he told them he wanted ‘the usual’ (I guess after living out of the same hotel for almost 10 months you get to say ‘the usual’).  I then spoke up and told the waiter what we would be having and it wasn’t the usual.  I ordered Shakahari Daawat and Murgh Lawabdar.  Translation:  Assorted marinated vegetables grilled in a tandoor and chicken with the chef’s special sauce.  We also had warm garlic naan and masala papad; and it was all quite tasty.

Speaking of tasty, I am sitting here this morning enjoying (I think not) a cup of Taster’s Choice instant coffee made with tap water.  For those of you wondering; yes, I did boil the water first.  I have a few hours before Paul is sending his rickshaw driver to pick me up to look at some flats.  The agent for the one he found has not sent the lease yet so we’re looking at some others just in case.  I plan on taking some pictures and/or video so I can give you all an idea of what’s available in India.  Keep your fingers crossed that we get into something soon.  This hotel room is quite cramped with all our belongings and starting to feel a bit claustrophobic.

That’s all for now; I’m going to finish my delicious cup of coffee and take a look at the local newspaper, ‘The Times of India”.  I know.  You’re all jealous…I think not.

Gotta love those cultures that don't value women as functioning human beings. A lot of the hispanic families here in Florida are the same way. I dated a boy where I went to his house for dinner, and the men ate at the table first and the women and children waited and ate what was left! Good luck looking for a new flat!!!

There was a very specific accent affected by those Englishmen who served in India. That said, i winder what you're going to sound like by the time you get back home.

I didnt think about boiling water for coffee, so that means you can't order coffee anywhere too I suppose?? Do they have a regular coffee pot in your room so you don't have to use instant? Instant coffee...YYYUUUKKK! But I guess it's better than nothing (I think?!?).......

I think you definitely have to be assertive there, but it sounds like you're getting the hang of it.

@ Blondefabulous
I think they do value woman here for the most part, that is why I thought it odd that they barely acknowledged me at dinner. The staff in the morning at that same restaurant bend over backwards for me.

I’m sure I’ll still be speaking English when I get home…though it may sound like I’ve got marbles in my mouth.

@ MIL
Yay, finally get out of this hotel after a day and a half stuck indoors!

@ MarieC
Instant coffee is not the tastiest, but what I miss already is Dunkin Donuts iced lattes.

@ Avitable
Yes, I will have to be much more assertive living here. It’ll take some time before I have a grip on things, but I’m trying.
