Want To Peek In My Window...

…or should I say out of it?

Until we find a flat to rent, I have an interesting (and typical) view out my hotel room window. Are you sure you want to take a peek? Here you go.

Down to the right is the police station.

No, not the building with the inverted ice cream cone on the top, I have no idea what that is. It’s this one that is somewhat obstructed by the trees.

And look, here are the nice police officers.

When I look to the left I get to see the highway. I can watch the traffic all…day…long… if I please.

Oh, and hear it too. Beep, beep, BEEEEEEP!

I even see the occasional train.

Now if I look straight ahead there is the building with the letters J-M-D embossed on the top. This is, in fact, the Indian Institute of Aerospace and Engineering.

There is even a real plane for hands on training.

Don’t believe me? You can click on this link

Planes and trains and automobiles,  oh my!

If I tire of the magnificent views from my window I can sit by the rooftop pool with an infinity edge and look down at the scene from the other side of the hotel. Before you start oohing and aahing at the sound of that, let me set you straight. Here is the pool.

You can’t tell it’s an infinity pool (aka a negative edge pool) because it’s not turned on. If it were on the water might not be so…what’s the word? Nasty. Yes that about sums it up. I haven’t seen anyone in it but the pigeons sure seem to enjoy it.

So I can’t go for a swim, but the view? Fasten your seatbelt, here it is; the local Huyundai dealership. I wonder if there are any seatbelts in these cars because there aren’t in the taxis of rickshaws I’ve been in.

If cars aren’t your fancy then you can crane your neck to the right and see…more cars. Except these ones are moving.

As you’ve seen the views aren’t anything to write home about. Oh wait, I kind of just did.

But it's sky over another part of the world!! That is cool in, and of itself!!!

Yes, it is very cool. Though some may not see living in India as a good thing, I am truly grateful for the opportunity.

I think India just fell a couple of more places DOWN on the bucket list.

All I can say is that if you're in India you just have to embrace it and take it for what it is...and it is interesting!

Are you going to get a chance to travel to the slightly less urban parts of India while you're there?

I know, Captain Obvious, but holy culture shock, Batman.

I hope to be able to see a lot of India while we're here...but first on the agenda is finding a flat.

@ Badass Geek
Ha! My son calls me Captain Obvious!

Yes, it is culture shock. I think the thing that stands out the most is the poverty. Our rickshaw was surrounding by children yesterday begging for money; we gave them candy bars instead. Paul knew we would be going past this area and had the foresight to buy a few while we were at the Mall area.

That cone shaped thing on the roof looks like a teepee.

I later asked the waiter in the restaurant here what that building was. He told me it's a temple. I don't know which of the Hindu gods it's for though.

I am so glad that you are safe...and so far away...Uh, I agree with what Badass said. Total culture shock. It's mindblowing how different that looks from the VErmont fall foliage I see outside my window...

@ Moonspun

There is major culture shock when you first come to India. I’m glad I have that visit to Dehli in January under my belt, as it gave me and idea of what to expect. And I won’t see any fall foliage here…or snow.
