I Love Summer?

I love summer. I look forward to it from December 26th all the way through to about now. Well maybe a week ago.

In the middle of winter I dream of summer. Of not having to dress in layers, or warm up the car, or put gas in the tank. And by the way, what ever happened to ‘full service’ gas stations? Never mind. If they still had those around how much more would a gallon cost?

Anyhoo, I count down the months, then weeks, and finally days, until summer begins. At last it is here. I break out the sandals, shorts and tank tops. Patio furniture is moved from the garage to the back yard. The pool gets filled and the garden planted.

And then the work fun begins. Barbeques, get togethers and parties. Keeping the house clean; the grass cut; the pool vacuumed; the garden weeded; and the dog poop, scooped. Having clean beach towels, cool drinks (i.e. beer…and plenty of it) and snacks always on hand.

When I was younger I looked forward to summer. No school. Day after day of hanging out with friends. Sleepovers in the middle of the week. It was one big, three month long, party. It was…Summer Vacation!

Well it’s still one big, three month long, party; only I still have to go to work. It’s not day after day of hanging out with friends; it’s every weekend of having company over or having some party to go to. The sleepovers are no longer in the middle of the week but on the weekend. And, for me, summer is no longer synonymous with vacation.

So, now I am counting the months, the weeks, and days ‘til the end. And as I did when I was a kid on ‘vacation’, I’ll be asking, “Are we there yet?”

Yes, but I still LOVE summer. Its a lot more work, but that's okay!

By the way, guess what I had for lunch yesterday. Fried green beans at TGI Fridays.

Blogged again last night. Check it out.

HUGS!

You know? I gotta be honest. I'm not a big summer gal. I prefer fall. Man. From mid-September until Christmas, especially the month of October, I am happier than a tornado in a trailer park! Summer is just too friggin' hot. I enjoy the "no shoes" thing, but the heat? Ish.

"...happier than a tornado in a trailer park!"

I love that. Too friggin' funny!

Put all the extra work aside, I love the summer as well. The days are so much longer. As an amateur photo bug the longer daylight time allows me to go out and take pictures after work. In the summer I can be out until 9:30 while in the winter it is dark before the work day is done.

So all I have to say is, long live summer!!!

As long as it's not too hot I also love summer. But like coal miner's granddaughter I favour Fall (or Autumn as we call it in Oz.) I love the changing colours and the crispness in the air. Enjoy all your summer get-togethers. They sound like fun!

About the easiest question anyone can ask me is what's your favorite season. Summer, hands down. Just being able to walk outside without piling on the clothes is worth it alone. Any other time of the year you've got bitter cold or nasty grey rain - the air itself is your enemy. And I hate wearing shoes as well.

"I'm dreaming of summer", all year long. (That's from a song of the same name by U.F.O, from Walk on Water. Just in case you were wondering).
