I Want to Live in Mayberry

I want to live in Mayberry. For you younger folk out there who have no idea what/where Mayberry is, it’s the fictional little town, in North Carolina, of the Andy Griffith Show, circa 1960’s.

Mayberry moved at its own slower pace. There was only one traffic stop and there wasn’t much crime; thus the need for only a sheriff and his incompetent, but sincere, deputy. They had a fishin’ hole, a local barber shop and the neighborhood drugstore. It was a small town where everyone knew everyone.

The name “Mayberry” has since become synonymous with “idyllic small town life” and “rural simplicity”, and...I want to live there…where everyone knows your name…Wait a minute. Isn’t that the theme song from “Cheers”, that 1980’s sitcom that took place in a neighborhood bar in Boston? In fact, wasn’t that the name of the bar? And how about the characters on that show? They were, well, characters.

You know what? I’m done. This isn’t taking the direction I had planned on. My train of thought has derailed. This post was supposed to be about wanting to move to a small town. And now…I just want a beer.

Sorry, that seemed so appropriate. I used to want to live in Mayberry. Though when I found out Don Knotts wouldn't be there, my enthusiasm changed a little. Then I went through wanting to live in Hazzard County. Now, I just want to live in Disneyland.

Sorry about your thought derailment. Hope no one was hurt.

I LOVE your photograph that you posted of yourself!

Ya know, in Mayberry, there was no Target. Horrors!! I don't wanna live there, just cuz of that.

My college town was very Mayberry. While I attended college there, they had just one stoplight. Very quiet and slow town. And? Everybody knew your business. Ish. :-)

And now? I want a beer, too. Dang it, woman!

I want to live in that town where they filmed the Gilmore Girls. So picturesque. I know places like that probably don't exist but it's nice to think that they might. Make mine a vodka. A double. It's been a tough week.

I live in a type of Mayberry. Make sure it's located where people are actually NICE on general principle too, because the alternative is horrifying. Trust me.

So that's what they do with all that lottery money...
