The New Kids on the Block

I talked to my fraughter today and she is uber excited because she and her BFF are going to see The New Kids on the Block in Chicago this October. I tried to give her crap, “So you’re spending money to see The Old Guys Down the Block? I don’t get it.”

I don’t get it because they weren’t from my generation. I remember what I listened to when they came out and it was a totally different genre of music. I guess I also don’t get it because it’s not like they stayed around. They wouldn’t, actually couldn’t, withstand the test of time. As most pop groups, they had their day in the sun but then evening set in and the moon came out.

I could hear the obvious excitement in her voice. She told me she didn’t care if she looked like a dork. And I knew she would have a great time; reminiscing about her youth, having a night out with a friend and putting aside her grown up responsibilities of “Hangin’ Tough”, living life “Step by Step” and having to “Face the Music.”

And when I said, “I know you’ll have a great time. Her response was, “You Got It.”

Hey, everyone has their guilty pleasures. Look at me - I'm a metalhead that still sits in his basement listening to Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. And "hangin' tough" is not only a catchy tune, but something that I wish I had an ability to do sometimes!

Why is everyone so caught up in their age? If they still got it, who cares? Madonna is 50, Janet Jackson is 40, and the Rolling Stones are...way too old for leather but they still rock fairly well. Surprising from someone is must be a baby boomer if your daughter is a fan. My mom is totally happy for me and I am so excited to see them again.

I am not caught up in my age. I think it's great that she's going and will have an awesome time!

I still listen to music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's...but I also love Radiohead, Placebo, White Stripes...ah, too many to list. And yes, I still go to concerts.

This post was meant to be humorous...

Toodles~

Thanks for stopping by my post. I haven't tried the dump cake, no one but me and the 2 year old eats sweets. I don't know what I did wrong there? They are crazy!!! Tell you daughter I want to go too. Come back soon, but no too soon I lost my card reader temporarily, I am thinking the toy box.

OMFG. I couldn't stand NKOB and I was the perfect age during the height of their popularity. I was more into the big hair bands: Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, yadda, yadda.

I used to joke if I ever owned a radio station that the call letters would be WNNK: No New Kids. :)
