Laying It On The Line...

I’ve been a bad blogger of late. Part of it has been laziness; but the other part? That part has been focused on ‘Me’. I’ve had this notion of starting a new blog. Well, it’s not just a notion I actually purchased the domain. I also have a great picture to put in the header (Yeah, I know, I never even bothered to do that here). And, my husband has actually been teaching himself html and started building my page along with his own for his photography. The thing is I don’t know if I want to go that route. Here are the pros and cons to having a separate blog.

Pros:
I can post whatever I want without my non-blogging friends and relatives reading it.

Cons:
I’d have to keep up two blogs when apparently I have trouble with one.
I’d have to become a comment whore in order to find readers.
My blog roll would increase and I’m having a hard time keeping up with the people I already love to read.
I like my ‘fluffy’ posts that hopefully get a giggle or two.

The reason I’m bringing this up is that as I get older I have shit, yes SHIT that I think about. You reach a point in life when you start to look back as much as you look forward and I’ve reached that point. Memories sometimes consume me in the middle of the night when I’m lying in bed with insomnia and other times they haunt me with abstract recurring dreams. These memories are not the things that make for a Lifetime Movie or a Dr. Phil appearance. They may not be all that interesting to anyone but me. They just, for some odd reason, need to have an occasional voice.

Now I started writing this post to ask for your opinion but I think I might have already talked myself into just keeping it all here. This is The Random Memorandum and I don’t necessarily need to keep it all light and fluffy as it has been or do I?

Thoughts? Comments?

You know what? You have to do what feels right to you. If you think you have co-workers reading here, I think a separate more anonymous blog might be a good idea (depending on what it is you want to let hang out). I tend to keep my private life separate from my work life.

But in the end, you've gotta be you! I'll read you no matter what. Light and fluffy or rife with mid-life angst. I'm not going anywhere.

Peace - D

I can certainly understand about keeping things private. Whatever you do, I will be there. Often our blogs go through a few incarnations before we get them the way we like them. I enjoy everything you write and I don't think you necessarily need to stick to just humour. You know me, I like the deep subjects. Go for it, hon!

Keep it here, as long as that feels right to you.

BTW I just saw you listed on the BlogHer attendees? See you there!

It's your blog change it up if you want to! A word on two seperate blogs is that it's double the work - why not plan a move to the new site once it is ready to go?

This is your blog. You write whatever you want, be it random or not, happy or not. Not everything in life is light and fluffy, so why should your blog be if you're not feeling that way on a particular day?

We take the good and the bad around here. Lay it all out on the line!

I say lay it all out right here. And don't worry about trying to keep up with the blogroll. Just read when you can and blog like a maniac. And I can't wait to read what you have to say! :)

I'll read anything you write, lay it on me, woman.

I think if you build it, the readers will come. It works in baseball, should work here, right?

The Random Memorandum is supposed to be whatever you need it to be. Whenever you need it to be.

Oh, and BTW. I know exactly what you mean.

I don't think you have to be all fluffy and light. That's not real life for most people all the time anyway. Your blog should reflect you - in all your wonderful dimensions. Do the unexpected...do the RANDOM. It works. I tune in to your blog and others for just that unexpected, maybe funny, maybe thought provoking, maybe tearful eloquent post. Let it all hang out here!

You need to do what YOU need to do. You need to write whenever, however and whatever makes YOU happy.

Oops! Somehow I missed this. I guess it just depends on who in your real life reads this blog and how much you want them to know. Two blogs sounds like a nightmare to me. I can't even keep up with one.

I never told anyone in my real life to read my blog except the few that can handle the good, bad and the ugly. They hear it anyway.

You could always just go private with this one and only invite the people you want to invite. Either way, I'll be around -- well, if you invite me that is.

You need to be you...and post whatever you feel like, and whatever you want to talk about. Random means to me that I will come here and never be sure about what you'll say. But isn't that the way blogging goes with everyone? We come back because sometimes people are funny, sometimes poignant and we want to find out what's going on in their lives. Personally I never feel obligated to be anyone but me on my blog. YOu should, too.

I think you can do it on one blog. I often write down those random memories that no one would find interesting. I've often thought of starting another blog but it's been dawning on me that no one is going to come after me for admitting that I did this or that or even for being boring (God forbid).
