The Nicest Room in My House...

After putting up with only one bathroom, the expense, the shopping time, the dust and the finding of the previous owner’s pictures of his penis (yes, you just read that and if you haven’t heard the story you can here) we finally have a newly remodeled bathroom. It turned out beautifully and is officially the nicest room in our house.

Here are a few pictures…

This is a view of the sink and commode.

(As a side, you might be able to make out that I put the tissue on the roll going over, not under. At a party a few months ago I had to replace the roll when I used the bathroom so of course I put it on going ‘over’, but when I had to use the restroom a little later I noticed that it had been changed to ‘under’. I guess I’m not the only anal person out there but if you’re going to be anal about T.P. at least do it right…which is over. Just sayin’)

The color of the porcelain looks white but it’s actually biscuit. Now the difference in color may seem minor but apparently there is a difference….

Okay, back to The Nicest Room in My House. This is the shower…

…and a close up. We had a shelf integrated for soap, shampoo, etc.

Here is the floor in the shower. Though the tile would be too slippery used in larger pieces, we installed 3/4” tiles which allowed for more grout lines making it less slippery and safer.

This is the floor tile and the baseboard. We chose to use the same small sized tile used on the shower floor and trim in the shower for the baseboard…it tied it all together.

All of the tile is travertine, which is a natural stone and though it’s hard to see in the photos the floor is actually very rustic looking with a cross between the smooth surface of tile and the natural look of stone. Though it is quite porous I think it won’t be that much upkeep as it is our spare bathroom. I love the look of it and we were fortunate enough to have an ‘in’ at a tile wholesaler near my place of work, which basically meant we paid almost the same as if we had bought ceramic.

Yes, this bathroom is the nicest room in my house and if Home Depot is looking for advertising space…I’m available .

Its beautiful !!! WOW - It also seems it was well worth the wait and the photo dicovery from the previous owner and the cost... should I go on?

And that show is amazing!!! You could have a party in there - I mean not literally, well.. ok maybe? Oh and so with you on the TP over and not under, my husband and I continually at least once a month change it up on one another...

Everything looks really great! Looks like a lot of work went into it, but it looks awesome.

Is that one of the new all-in-one toilets?

Excuse me? I have been to your house, and although I have not been in every room, I CAN attest to the fact that your whole house is lovely - not just the bathroom.

That's a first - the first time I've seen a photo of a fellow blogger's toilet.

Good show.

Cat:
Toilet paper should definitely be over. End of discussion.

Hallie:
But can Mr. Hallsicle get me a discount?

Michael:
Thanks, we’re really happy with it and no it’s a regular ol’ two piece toilet.

Lou:
Thanks for the compliment but I think you were so excited to meet Cat that day that you just didn’t notice all the things that we still need to do.

Richard:
You always remember your first…blushing now.

Absolutely lovely. Can I come over and poop in your pretty bathroom?

Also, thanks for checking in on me. All is well, just not feeling the blog since I moved. I'm plum tuckered out at night. :) I'll get back into it soon I hope.

It looks great - I can just imagine how nice it is to have it all done. Nice choices for sink, vanity and tile (toilet too, of course).

Very pretty! You have great taste, darlin'. I have that kind of tile in the upstairs bathroom, and it's not hard to keep up at all. It's gorgeous!!!

As far as the TP debate goes, there is no other way than over. "Under" people (my husband is one) drive me crazy, and I switch people's TP all the time. I will not leave a party without changing the rolls around! And yes, they always go back to under. It's a riot.

Ooooooh! I LOVE me some travertine! That's what I have always wanted to redo my bathroom in.

Beautiful, hon!

Absolutely gorgeous. Love the colours, the look, everything. I don't think I'd ever come out again once I was in there. You must be thrilled with it!

OMG. It is gorgeous!

So jealous here.

Your shower is bigger than all of the closets in my house... put together.

do people really put their TP under?
I LOVE the sink with the built in towel rack on it...nice!
And I don't know if it's the angle or size of the pictures, but my first thought when looking at the shower was that there is room for two in there...
Oh and the tiles are lovely, too!
