This is Calvin

This is Calvin.

We went to a high school graduation party on Saturday. A friend of the guest of honor brought this 7 week old puppy. Her uncle’s dog had had a litter and Calvin was one of two pups left. This girl was told to see if she could “pawn him off on someone”.

As soon as I saw him I had to hold him. He was sooooo soft and cuddly. My Better Half caught my eye and gave me the look. “NO” his eyes were saying. I tried to convince him that our dog, Levi, needed a little brother. I had him hold Calvin. My sister-in-law tried to talk him into it…”NO.”

After a bit I brought Calvin to the backyard where the teens were hanging out. The girl that had brought him told me she had just talked to her uncle and that he now wanted $50.00 for the dog. I told her My Better Half was none too keen on the idea, and if he was saying ‘no’ now, he sure wasn’t going to pay for the dog. I left Calvin with her and went back in front.

I repeated the conversation to the group of people I had been sitting with. More than a few were pretty ticked off that a guy would send his niece to a party to ‘pawn off’ a puppy and then ask for money when he’s told someone was interested.

I was resigned to the fact that it just wasn’t meant to be. Then, to the surprise of all, My Better Half says I should just pay for the dog. I asked if he was sure and he told me he was. My sister-in-law, unbeknown to us, had gone to the backyard to tell this girl what she thought of the situation and negotiated a lower price; thirty five dollars. So I wrote out a check, brought him home and made him a part of our family.

Here he is with his new big brother.
